UX/UI Designer
UX Events Hub is a tool for Googlers to access a catalog of external UX-focused industry events. We also aim to provide a holistic view of Google UX’s external presence (attending and speaking) across industry events.
Welcome to check it out: go/uxevents
"UX Community and Culture foster a world-class UX culture through cross-functional product development, internal operations, programs, education, talent recruitment, and perhaps most impactfully, by improving how Google defines roles and performance expectations for designers."
Know more about UXCC
Google has the biggest UX community in the world. The company encourages and supports Googlers to join industry-related events every year. It takes time and energy for each Googler to research various events and finds out the reliable and appropriate one to participate through different events platforms. On the other side, it's hard for UXCC to collect all the information from various sources to analyze and understand Googlers' events preference and provide better support.
Who are our users?
Global UXers are our primary user in the MVP
UXCC is our secondary user group and content provider
Speaker, Leadership, staffing can get benefits, but they're not the priority at the beginning stage
What are the needs/goals they share?
After interviewed thirty Googlers from each user group, I synthesized and found out each user group's unique need:
Global UXers want to
/ Be part of the community
/ Filtering events through job relevance
/ Saving searching time
/ Find out where can inspiration and get energy
/ Understand attending process
/ Know Googlers attending list to connect
/ Get Promo code of the sponsored event
UXCC need to
/ Understand UXer's latest preference
/ Delivery high-quality and useful information to the Google UX community
/ Announce Google's sponsorship of external events
/ Identify volunteers or speakers for several events
Limited by the resource and the cost, Speaker, leadership, and staffing group's need will not be prioritized in this MVP
Observation
Joined three design conference/event for observations. Each one gave me an unforgettable memory from a different perspective. Let’s go through this experience together again.
As a events attendee
:)
Participating events allow me to know new people and explore the city
Eyes stop by interested topic
:(
Many events have overlapping time frame
Take time to figure out schedule and commute thing
Competitor Analysis
Went through competitors and focused on Eventbrite, Meetup, Facebook event, and Event spreadsheet(current internal tool) to understand how user browse events and how hosts manage events through these platforms
UX Event Hub should
Provide comprehensive and reliable information
Deliver the right events information to the targeted people
Provide the opportunity for the user to meet people who have common interests and similarity
Clear information structure and secure search method
Synthesized data points into seven key insights and separated into three phases through the empathy map and affinity diagram
It requires time and energy to find and join a event
Users know events through vary ways, like network, sites, internal spreadsheet and emails
Users want validations from reliable user generated content sources
Some Users are willing to be more involved, such as presenting, volunteering or helping others to prepare
Joining events give people opportunity to build network, get knowledge, refuel energy, and refresh mindset
UXers proactively connect with potential candidates, while they need clear guidance about how to put them in the right position
UXers are concerned about overall impact of leaving negative review
Considered all users' and stakeholders' need, time, resource, and capability, we defined our design goals of UX Event Hub MVP as following:
Deliver the precise information that matches the UXers with the right events efficiently.
Encourage and guide UXers to fully engage in the events and get the best knowledge, experience, opportunity and networking experience.
Leverage user feedbacks to make it useful for other potential attendees in the future.
Strengthen and grow relationships with members that empower the overall UX community.
Browse a catalog of external UX events
Connect with other Googlers who are attending the same event as you
Share knowledge (links to trip reports, photos, and videos)
Review past events and provide feedback
Based on the research learnings, I built three personas to show three kinds of typical user's diverse needs
Lee joined Google as a UX design intern. She wants to learn from all the talented Googlers and get engaged in the community soon. Attend events is an efficient way for Lee to meet other people and build the network. What she wants to know more is who she will meet on the upcoming events so that she could identify these people better before she talks to them.
I'm new to Google. Hope to build the network and engage in the UX community soon. "
Jane got into the design industry for several years. As a senior designer, she keeps active in the design community to offer new designer support and stay updated with the latest trends. When looking at events, inspiring places and the right time frame are always the key factors. However, booking trip and going through the attending logistic made her feel annoying sometime.
I want to get fresh inspiration and keep energetic by attending events."
Daniel dedicates to the sponsorship of many internal and external events. He needs to know what events are more attractive for people and who are the attendees. Currently, he has to send emails to the event organizers to get the list of name. What if we can know this information automatically. Then, we can better understand Google UXer’s preference and provide more guidance before they join the event.
We want to know UXer’s preferred event, then we can provide more support and better guidance"
Generated three user flows which include features to fit diverse user needs
Here are interfaces for the MVP of UX Event Hub
These clean interfaces came up after sketches and a ton of design critics. Here, I use the "searching bar" as one example to show the iteration process and validations of concepts:
1. Fear was created by the unknown. The unknown could be broken by actions.
2. Labeled “Designers” aren’t the only designers that exist in the team
3. Sharing early work opens up for concept discussions, with open space for critique and improvements.
4. Decisions aren’t always permanent; when things are ambiguous, I need to focus on how I’ll navigate through the ambiguity.
Infinity&infinity... Welcome to contact and share more about this amazing journey with you :)
Thanks to all my Superheros for paving a perfect summer to me
